Blue Knob State Park will host programs about amphibians and honeybees.

Pennsylvania amphibians will be offered at 7 p.m. July 15 in the park’s Buck Hill Amphitheater, while a program about honeybee colonies will be presented at 7 p.m. July 17 in the amphitheater. Shawnee State Park to host “Bones in the Stones.”

The park present “Bones in the Stones” on July 17 at 7 p.m. in the Historic and Interpretive Center attached to the main office. The program deals with fossilization, and questions whether there were dinosaur bones in Bedford County, or even in Pennsylvania. The Hyndman Food Pantry, 4303 Hyndman Road, will have registration for its food bank on Friday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. Registrations for the new year, 2022-2023, will be accepted. Bring proof of address.

Bedford County Tax Assessment and Claims office has assessment records open for public inspection. Property owners aggrieved by their assessment may file a 2023 Annual Assessment Appeal. Forms are available from July 15 to Sept. 1 at www.bedfordcountypa.org or at the assessment office, 200 S. Juliana St., Suite 104, Bedford, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Residential appeals are $25, while commercial, farm and industrials are $100. Forms must be postmarked no later than Sept. 1.

Bedford Township has announced periodic road closures will occur July 11 to complete a double seal coat project. The closures will begin at 6 a.m. July 11 along Shed Road before moving to Country Ridge Road, Weber Lane to the bridge over Interstate 99 and Dogwood Road, weather permitting. The project may not be completed until July 12.

Freedom From Smoking classes will be hosted by the Lung Disease Foundation of Central Pennsylvania every Tuesday, July 12 through Aug. 23, at the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce Building, 203 S. Juliana St., Bedford. Classes are held from 4:30-6 p.m. There is no fee to attend; free nicotine replacement therapy in the form of nicotine patches or gum and mints is provided. Second annual Block Party will be hosted by the New Paris Borough Council from 1 to 4 p.m. July 30 at the New Paris Community Building, 3925 Cortland Drive. The theme will be “Champions on the Block.” There will be games, music, crafts, snacks, a bouncy house, a chance to meet first responders and more. There will be door prize drawings. Everyone who attends will be eligible to receive one ticket. For each non-perishable food item donated, a ticket will presented to the donor. Tickets will also be available to purchase for a donation. All food items and money donated will benefit The New Paris Food Bank.

The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation’s annual Thru the Seasons photo contest is now open. In celebration of the milestone 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act and in recognition of the importance of forests for water quality, the theme of this year’s photo contest is “Clean Water and Forested Ecosystems.” The foundation is calling on photographers, both amateur and professional alike, to share their artistic view on the value of clean water and the role forests play in watershed health by submitting to the following categories: Water is Life, Caught in the Rain, Raindrop to River, Reflections, Forests and Young Photographers (ages 12 to 17). Specialty show set for Aug. 3.

Bedford County Garden Club will host a National Garden Club Horticulture specialty show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Bedford Presbyterian Church. The event is free and open to the public to attend or enter. Categories will include flowering annuals, perennials and biennials, decorative perennial foliage, bulb flowers, hostas, herbs, flowering container grown plants, foliage container grown plants, combination plantings, arboreal, or vegetables.
